Everest Photography Tips for EBC Trek

Everest Photography Tips for EBC Trek

Everest! A name, when heard, brings a strong, weird feeling. For me, Everest is not just a mountain but also a representation of human victory over the top of the planet, the king of the mountains.

A lot of visitors visit Mount Everest not just to trek or view Everest, but also to capture the best moments.  Mount Everest Photography is different from other photographs, as it is filled with adventures, thrills, and some risks associated with high altitude.

Capturing the views of the magnificent Himalayan range, praying flags, people and their smiles, and monasteries in the Sherpa villages. They still do not complete the Everest photography.

Why is Everest Photography Unbeatable?

There are thousands of mountains in the world, then why do photographers choose Mount Everest?

  • The magical light when it falls in the snow of Everest, the color of the horizon changes, the snow shines, and it feels like nature is painting the golden hours in her canvas.
  • The centuries-old Sherpa culture is deep-rooted in their monasteries, prayers, rotating mani wheels, and their hospitality.
  • The unpredictable weather, clouds, air, and glaciers which can change their form any time.
  • Capturing photographs above 4,000 m, above sea level, is not only a test of the cutting-edge of the cameras but also of the photographers. Above 5000m, the battery dies soon.

Mount Everest photography is about capturing the landscape as well as living the life and capturing the wordless tales of life.

The best photography spots in Everest Base Camp trek.

Lukla Airport

Lukla airport is known for its dramatic landing of flights on a narrow and short runway. Also known as Hillary Airport, the planes are diving between the hills. Capturing the landing airplanes in the golden hour is just wow. A wide-angle lens is preferred for the shot.

Namche Bazar: the Gateway to Everest

Situated at an altitude of 3440m, Namche Bazar is shaped as an amphitheater. This amusing natural shape of the village makes it an amazing jewel for photography. The colorful souvenir shops, pubs and bars and popular tourist hubs make it an amazing option for photography. The Saturday weekly market can be another chance to capture the lively moments of the local people.

Everest View Hotel: First View of Mount Everest

The hotel situated at an altitude of 3880 m gives the first glimpse of Mount Everest during your EBC trek. The panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse are seen from the hotel, perfect for photography. Capturing the moment early in the golden light is the dream of many photographers.

Tengboche Monastery

The red-roofed old monastery of Tengboche with Amadablam at the backdrop is a great spot to capture the spiritual vibes of the locality. Since it is a sensitive area for Buddhists and pilgrims, always ask to take photographs of the monastery and monks.

Pangboche Valley

One of the oldest valleys in the Khumbu region, filled with old stone-walled houses, old mani walls, stone and wooden carved windows, and farming lands, is another beautiful spot for Everest photography. Lhotse and Amadablam in the background provide a perfect place for photography during the golden hours.

Dingboche

The panoramic valley of Imja is open after entering Dingboche. The island peak and the rocky mountains behind the valley bring balance in the photographs. Also, the meadows and the grazing yaks in the cultural village add a story to the photos.

Dougla Pass

On the way to Lobuche, at an altitude of 4,620 m, there lie the memorials of the mountaineers who have lost their lives around the Khumbe region. Being a popular place often photographed is one of the saddest parts of the trek. One of the must-visit spots in the Dugla Pass is the memorial of Scott Fischer, who lost his life in the 1996 Everest Disaster. The more time you spend here, the more you go back in time.

Lobuche-Gorakshep

This region in the Khumbu is full of glaciers, moraines, frozen lakes, and smaller streams. The trail between Lobuche and Gorak Shep is best for captivating scenarios of the glaciers and high-altitude terrain. Another attraction of the section is the Pumori, a pyramid-shaped peak. Capturing the rawness of nature glorifies the war between nature and human desires.

Kalapathar

That’s true; the peak of Everest cannot be observed from Everest Base Camp. Trekkers wake up early in the morning at 4 am to reach Kalapathar and shot the golden rays of sun falling on the Everest.  The 14-day trek to EBC is worth it and captures the best panoramic view of the Everest region. Kalapathar is the best spot for Photography Tips for Everest.
