You can rest up a little before heading out for an excursion around your accommodation. Later in the evening, we will have a brief debriefing session followed by a warm and delicious welcome dinner. This will be a chance to receive preparatory advice and a summary of your upcoming adventure, and enjoy the local cuisine.
Drive to Machha Khola (9 hrs Drive)
The next morning, we will wake up early, have breakfast, and head out to our destination in a luxury tourist vehicle. Passing through lush hills, the soothing sounds of the river, and glistening mountain backdrops, we will enjoy a scenic drive to Machha Khola, the starting point of our trek. Since the road is a little rough and bumpy, it will take about 7 to 8 hours to reach Machha Khola. As soon as we arrive, we will settle into a guesthouse and freshen up. You can also go on a walk to explore the nearby surroundings before resting out the day.
Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat
Our actual trek begins on this day, as we will be walking on foot from here onwards. We will start the trek early in the morning, immediately after breakfast, and walk for approximately 6 to 7 hours alongside the river, eventually reaching the hot springs at Tatopani. Continuing the journey, we pass through stops such as Doban, Thulo Dunga, and Yara Bagar while crossing the Budi Gandaki River. After crossing the suspension bridges, we finally enter the Manaslu conservation area and reach Jagat, our resting point for the day.
Trek to Lokpa
On this day, we will begin the trek early as usual, reach Salleri to enjoy the fascinating views of Mount Shringi, and then descend to the traditional Buddhist village called Sirdibas. Passing through Lokpa village, we trek along a ridge through the pine forest and reach a trail that leads to the Tsum Valley. After enjoying the local cuisine, we will trek for approximately 5 to 6 hours to reach Jagat and spend the night in a guesthouse.
Trek from Lokpa to Chumling
On the fifth day, we are drawing closer to our destination: Chumling village, situated beneath the mountains. The trek will take approximately 4 to 5 hours, and we will walk alongside Tibetan settlements and stone pavements to reach this destination. Chumling village is also called Lower Tsum, as it represents certain fragments of the valley. After settling in, we will explore the village’s ancient monastery and Tibetan-style houses, then rest after a warm meal the following day.
Trek to Chokhangparo
The trek to Chokhangparo begins with crossing suspension bridges and walking along a trail offering fascinating views of the Ganesh Himal. You will trek for 4 to 5 hours, pass through Gho village, and reach Chokhangparo to enjoy the views of the Himal Chuli and Ganesh Himal.
Trek to Nile
On this day, we will trek alongside the Shir Khola, passing Rachen Gompa to reach Nile for the night. We will pass through the Phurbe and Pangdun villages along the way. A visit to the sacred Phiren Phu Cave, also known as the Pigeon Cave, is another highlight of the region. It is believed that Milarepa, the Tibetan Buddhist master, meditated in this cave.
Trek from Nile to Mu Gompa/Highest Point of Tsum Valley
As we approach the Tibetan border, we will trek on this day to reach Mu Gompa, one of the largest and most renowned monasteries in the Manaslu region. On this trek, you will also come across the oldest religious relic, Dephyudonma Gompa. As you reach the destination, passing through yak pastures, you can freshen up and explore the monastery to learn about Tibetan Buddhists. You will find numerous religious books in the monastery, like the Kangyur, Thangka paintings, and life-size statues of ancient Buddhist masters Tara and Padmasambhava.
Trek from Mu Gompa to Chumling
On the ninth day of the trek, we will experience the greener countryside of the region as we descend in altitude through the lower Tsum Valley. Passing through Chhomrong, we will come across red rhododendron forests. Chumlung features a number of traditional Tibetan-style houses, set amidst stone-paved streets and surrounded by a stunning backdrop of pine and juniper forests. You will also find a few religious sites, such as Pango and Gurwa gompas.
Trek to Philim
Continuing the trek, we will leave the beautiful Chumling village and trek in the direction of Lokpa. On the way, we will pass through the gorgeous Samba Falls and reach Philim after trekking for about 6 to 7 hours. Located within the Manaslu Conservation Area, this village is known for the Gurung and Tsombo communities. You will also be able to enjoy the stunning views of the Manaslu range and cascading waterfalls.
Trek from Philim to Soti Khola
Today will be our last day of actually trekking on the rough and rocky trails, as we will be descending towards the drive point. We will follow the trail along the ridge of the Budi Gandaki River and reach Soti Khola, where we will be staying the night.
Drive from Soti Khola to Kathmandu (drive 7 hrs)
Wrapping up the journey of the hidden trails and the mesmerizing beauty of the Tsum Valley, we will leave Soti Khola.
