Luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra FAQs
Expand AllHow far in advance should I book the tour from Kathmandu to Mount Kailash?
Generally, it takes around 15 to 20 working days to process the Tibet Travel Permit. Given the additional travel permits required for a trip to Mount Kailash, the processing time could be longer than for ordinary Tibet tours. It is recommended to book your Mount Kailash tour at least 30 days in advance to allow sufficient time for processing all required paper applications.
What are the necessary travel documents for traveling from Kathmandu to Mount Kailash?
First, we will arrange a Chinese Group Visa through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Please note, if you already hold a Chinese visa, it will be canceled once the group visa is issued.
Next, entry into the Tibet Autonomous Region requires a Tibet Travel Permit, which we will handle for you as part of the package.
Additionally, some local travel documents-such as the Alien’s Travel Permit for visiting areas like Mount Everest-are required for the overland journey from Kathmandu to Lhasa.
Don’t worry about the paperwork! We will take care of all permits and travel documents for you. Just follow our instructions, and everything will be arranged smoothly.
When is the best time to visit Mount Kailash?
Mount Kailash can be visited throughout the year, except during the harsh winter months. The best time for clear views and pleasant weather is in May, June, September, and October.
For a truly immersive cultural experience, consider visiting during the Saga Dawa Festival . This festival celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and nirvana of Sakyamuni Buddha. Pilgrims from across the region gather to perform the kora around the sacred mountain, offering a rare opportunity to witness and participate in a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
Note: Our special Mount Kailash tour for the Saga Dawa Festival in 2026 departs on May 21, 2026. Seats are limited, so early booking is highly recommended.
How long is the Kailash trek?
Day 1: Darchen to Dirapuk Monastery (Trek 13km)
Day 2: Dirapuk Monastery to Dzutrpuk (Trek 24km)
Day 3: Dzutulpuk to Darchen (Trek 7km)
Among the three days, the second day is the most difficult as you need to pass through the Dolmala Pass, the highest point on this trail at 5630 meters above sea level.
Is it difficult to complete the Kailash trek? What if I can’t complete the trek?
This is a moderate-level trekking tour in Tibet, suitable for travelers with an average level of fitness. The trek spans 3 days at an average altitude of over 4,500 meters, with the highest point reaching 5,630 meters at Dolmala Pass.
If you prefer not to trek, you can remain in Darchen, at the base of Mount Kailash, while the rest of the group completes the trek. During this time, you can explore the local village, visit nearby monasteries, and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Is there an age limit for the Mount Kailash tour?
There is no age limit for trekking around Mount Kailash. In fact, our oldest client completed both the Everest Base Camp and the Mount Kailash Kora at the age of 82.
What matters most is physical fitness rather than age. Travelers with cardiovascular or cerebrovascular conditions are advised not to visit Tibet. Additionally, due to limited facilities in remote areas, it is not recommended to bring children under 5 years old.
