Kathmandu City Tour Itinerary

Day01

Activity 01: Visiting the City Center

An excursion to Nepal’s deep-rooted cultures and history begins with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square premises, also known as Basantapur. After breakfast, early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven through the hustling city to Katmandu Durbar Square.

Located centrally, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a first stop for many foreign visitors, being a city center and a go-to holiday stop for the locals. We will explore the Hanuman Dhoka Museum, visit the palace square courtyard, surrounding temples, and the history museum, and pay homage to the living goddess, Kumari.

Day01

Activity 02: Enjoy the Architectural Marvel of Patan Durbar Square

Following a lunch break, we will drive to Patan Durbar Square to explore the artistic courtyards, spectacular palace buildings, and old stone temples. Starting from the artistic gate in Patan, also known as Patan Dhoka, you will descend into the narrow alleys of the area, which is highly populated with Newars, an ethnic community.

We will spend a few hours inside the Patan Museum, which displays everything about Nepal’s stone and wooden crafts. While observing the courtyard through textured wooden windows, “the Aakhi Jhyal,” you will also get a glimpse of the history of kings who ruled this city.

Day01

Activity 03: Watch Sunset from Boudhanath Stupa Premises

Continuing our stroll through the capital city, we will drive next to Boudhanath Stupa to witness the ravishing sunset with a good spirit. This world heritage site is also the biggest stupa in Asia, with a pair of eyes atop the white dome-shaped structure overlooking the Kathmandu Valley.

As we reach the entrance gate, we will circumvent the stupa premises and take some pictures while soaking in the spiritual ambiance of Boudha. To learn more about Buddhism and its practices, you can also visit nearby monasteries, like Guru Lhakhang and Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling. We will also witness the magic of the setting sun on the stupa from the rooftop of a café while having an evening tea.

Day01

Activity 04: Witness Evening Magic at Pashupatinath Temple

The tour will take a turn to experience the religious spirits of an infamous Hindu temple, Pashupatinath. Also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, an evening Aarati in the Pashupatinath premises is indeed a divine sight to watch. After saying goodbye to the calm and relaxing atmosphere of Boudhanath, we will drive to the Pashupatinath temple to witness the evening magic.

We will take a quick stroll around the temple premises and the courtyard, as non-Hindus aren’t allowed to enter the main temple. However, it wouldn’t stop us from experiencing the divinity of this pilgrimage. The evening arati on the banks of the Bagmati River is our main motive for visiting the temple in the evening. Without knowing, you will get attuned to the pleasing enhancements of praying to the gods in Pashupatinath temple just across the river.

Day01
